If you are aged 14 to 17 and can’t wait to learn to drive, or if you would like to build your confidence before taking to the roads, this could be the solution.

The work to improve the under 17s facility at Barton Stacey is now complete. We now have white lines in the middle of most of the roads and we have added 2 mini roundabouts and ‘stop’ and ‘give way’ junctions. The roads have been landscaped where they were overgrown so the kerbs are now visible and can be used for moving off and stopping. From Winnall roundabout (Junction 9 of M3) Follow A34 towards Andover Join A303 to Andover Take exit signposted to Barton Stacey Turn right at the end of the road Go over the bridge which crosses over the A303 Go past the turning signposted A303 to Basingstoke then turn into the next gateway on the left

From Basingstoke Join A303 towards Andover then Take the exit signposted to Barton Stacey Turn right at the end of the road Go over the bridge which crosses over the A303 Go past the turning signposted A303 to Basingstoke then turn into the next gateway on the left.

From Andover Join A303 towards Basingstoke Take exit signposted to Barton Stacey Turn left at the end of the road Then turn into the next gateway on the left.

As a fully qualified Driving Standards Agency approved driving instructor I can provide legal driver training for under 17’s at an off-road facility on the outskirts of Winchester.

The training site is approximately 3 miles of private military road system with various inclines where there are suitable areas for practicing basic driving techniques and manoeuvres without the added pressure of oncoming traffic. Training will take place in an air conditioned car equipped with dual controls.

The course aims to make drivers safer and more confident when they take to the roads for the first time and I can provide various training packages depending on the requirements of the individual.

2, 4 and 6 hour courses are available covering these topics....

• Car controls
• Moving off and stopping the car
• Clutch control/slow speed control
• Basic reversing
• Gear changing
• How to perform an emergency stop
• Steering development

In addition, I will provide pupils with useful training aids via the ‘downloads’ section of my website.

The course costs £80 for a 2 hour session, whether there are 1 or 2 students in the car (i.e. 1 student pays £80, 2 students pay £40 each. Gift vouchers are available on request.

Statistics show that 1 in 5 newly qualified drivers will be involved in a collision within the first 6 months of driving. I believe that experience is the key to reducing this alarming statistic as the more driving experience a novice can gain, the more adept they will be at dealing with high risk situations.

This off-road training will enable young drivers to master basic driving techniques before having to deal with oncoming traffic and will minimise the disruption caused to residents who live in key areas for practicing manoeuvres.
